I am installing a phoenix gold xs2500 amp and the fuses keep popping. I have it grounded to a sanded clean metal area of rear quarter panel. Ground cable is approx. 3 feet long. I am getting 12.8 to amp. Do I need to install the tiny thin wire between the 2 rca cables? If so where? It is like a small 3rd wire between the 2 RCA cables. The fuse block is mounted about 3 feet from the amp in the trunk and isn't tripping, only the 2 30amp fuses in amp are. Please help?

This is a tough one. That tiny wire you refer to is what is know as the remote wire. It is connected to your HU, and it tells the amp when to turn on or off, so you definately want to have it connected.
The side of your amp should have 2 pairs of rca inputs, a place for your power wire, a place for your ground wire, and a place for that remote wire. It is probably labeled REM. Connect it.
The question of fuses blowing has me stumped. Connecting that remote probably won't solve it (though it's something you should do anyways), it might easily be a problem with the amp itself. What kind of subs do you have it connected to?

as far as the wire between the 2 rca's goes: one of the first things they taught us at install school was not to run your signal cables right next to your power cables. the remote wire carries 12 volts when turned on and it runs along with your rca's?.... bad idea... run a seperate remote wire down the same side of the vehicle as your power wire, and your rca's should be run down the opposite side. sure you can hook it up that way and sometimes it won't hurt anything but better safe than sorry. as for the fuses blowing... is the amp used? if it is there is probably something wrong inside(shorted circuit). if it is new... take it back and exchange it for a new one. as long as all of your connections are correct and this keeps happening... the problem is internal.

Unless there is an impedence issue, you probably have a bad transister/mosfet or similair component related to the power supply in the amplifier. I've had 2 phoenix amps go to service for popping fuses AS SOON as you put the fuse in the fuse holder. In fact I had one come back doing the same thing even after being serviced (It was only 3 months old)... PG finally sent a new one to replace it... I know PG makes solid amps but never underestimate the ability for one of them to go bad..

Jellynutz has it. If the fuses in your amp are blowing it has nothing to do with the remote power wire, you either have a bad amp or have way too low an impedence load on the amp. What are you trying to drive with this amp? (I've never had good experiences with PG amps, by the way. Way too easy to smoke them and I've had three DOA out of the box. They rank right down there with Profile and Pyramid, IMO.)

be careful. i've learned from a mistake. not having your battery connect w/ no remote wire will (if the speaker is connet) most likely blow a connection wire to your sub. i had that problem and fused the wire right at the cone on my kicker comp. it sucked...
