kenwood remote input wire signal

Does anyone have any detailed information on what signal is sent to the steering wheel input wire?

If someone has installed the PAC SWI-JACK or the Axxess ASWC adapters could you probe the signal?

I assume it is a serial connection, but that is only a guess.

The reason I ask is I am putting a microcontroller in the car that will see when i press steering wheel buttons and I figured I could use one of the extra outputs on it to interface into my stereo without having to purchase either of those adapters.

Depending on the car, the signals are different resistance values so thats the easy part. What the Kenwood uses for input could be the same coding as used in the remote control.

The wired remote input of a deck uses a simple voltage divider network. A string of like value resistors wired in series across a 5 volt supply. At the intersecting point of each resistor a switch that is placed across that point to the third wire of the wired remote jack. There is a different voltage at each resistor intersection. The radio knows which button you pressed by the voltage that returns on the 3rd wire.

Sony makes a wired joystick remote. It has just switches and resistors on the circuit board.

You would not happen to know the voltage to the function values do you? I have an analog out on my controller that could easily give what voltage the kenwood is looking for.

I am going to try and contact kenwood to see if they have any documentation.
