subwoofer output problem

I have two 10" MB Quart Reference RLP 254 in a sealed enclosure, being powered by a MB Quart ONX 1.1500D amplifier. The setup is wired down to 1 ohm.

Whenever I initially turn on my vehicle, I hear a static/crackle sound come from my subs, and then there is no output whatsoever. I have checked and re-checked all the wiring several times and I cannot find the problem.

The system worked fine for about two weeks, and this is particularly frustrating. Any help?

I do not know when it quit playing, or if you did anything right before it quit. But here are somethings to check. Make sure it has signal, check the voltage across power and ground with the amp powered up. Check for a protection or diagnostic light on the amp. Since it makes the static in the beginning, I doubt this is the problem, but make sure the voice coils of the woofers are not out of phase.

What are some clues that the "coils are out of phase"?

Did you take the speakers out of the enclosure, or rewire the speakers between the time it played to the time it quit?

I have taken them out to check the wiring, yes.

If the speakers make a sound initially, I do not think this is your problem. If the speaker coils are wired in parallel, make sure that the positive wire is connected to both positive terminals of the speaker. If the coils are wired in series, make sure the jumper wire is connected from the positive of one coil to the negative terminal of the other coil.

Sounds like a loose or undone wire connection. Check your connections.

I just went out and checked all wiring once again, plus your recommendations, and here is exactly what happens:

As soon as I turn the system on the amp powers up, the subs make the static/crackle sound, then the amp goes into protect mode (as indicated by the led light). It stays in protect mode.

I had a spare amp lying around so I hooked that one up in place of the MB Quart, and the system plays fine now. So this is apparently some sort of problem with the MB Quart? Which is a pretty big bummer, since it only has like 2 weeks worth of use on it. Not sure what I should do from here. Is there anything I can do to check it? Should I send it off somewhere for diagnosis?

The amp should be under warranty, so take it back where you bought it for repair.  This amp is supposed to be one-ohm stable, but you may have had the gain way too high and overloaded it.  Or it could simply be defective.  In any case, if it's only a couple weeks old warranty repair is calling your name.
