Hi all, I am brand new to the forum, and I am already confused about my choices for sub/amp combo. I have a brand new bd1500 that I got for a really good price. Its power is rated at 750rms 4 ohms, and its birthsheet from Fosgate says that it tested at 1719 at 2 ohms mono.  Now, I have narrowed down my choices of subs to one (just one) JL 10W7 or 12W7. My question is this. Will the bd1500 do the W7 (either size) justice? I am pretty much set on the JL Audio enclosure which they have on their site for the W7 specifically. I just want to make sure that this combo would be good. The car is a 2003 Nissan Altima (FYI, in case it matters). In my previous vehicle (99 Maxima), I had a Fosgate bd500, and it pushed three 10" RF HE2s really really hard. So, thank you in advance for your opinions.

:)

Alex

Im not the expert here but i dont see why they wouldnt be a good match. May we ask what your other choices were?? Have you seen the new Diamond Audio TDX series. The 12" model has a 1500 watt rms rating which that amp would be perfect for. https://www.diamondaudio.com/MobileAudio/index.cfm?page=Subwoofers#

JL lists the W7 12 at an optimal range of 750 watts, @3 ohms so i dont know where that would put your bd1500. Probably a little to the high side. Anyways, just an opinion. Regardless you'll be very happy, just depends on how much you want out of that amp.

Your 1500bd may be rated at "1719 @ 2oms", but if you read the birth sheet a little closer you'll notice that it is rated based on a 14.4volt system, not 12volt. You can expect apx 1500watts @ 2ohms on a 12volt system with that amp, as long as your alternator can handle the load.

With that... I agree with TDSTEELE. I think you would have a good match with one 12W7 (a little over 750watts RMS). But be careful, if you turn the gains up too high, then you will be entering the danger zone.

I also agree that you might be happier with one 1500RMS sub @ 2ohms, or two 750RMS subs @ a 2ohm total load. I'm currently running 2 RFD2112's (2ohm DVC Punch HX2's) from a Power 1000bd and it quakes (still have to get it measured, but it should be around 160-170db's). I used to run 2 RFP3412's (4ohm SVC HE's) from a Power 500bd and was hitting apx. 142db's. So I know you'll be happy with your Power 1500bd amp, as long as you can get some subs that will match it.

Thank you for your feedback. WV, its funny that you mentioned that. my second choice was to run 2-12" RFD2112s (and at the price I can get them, I will probably end up going this route). Are you running yours in a sealed box or?
