I recently installed a new HU in my 2002 Jetta.  When I used the origianl harness (with converter) with my new Eclipse HU, everything was great.  Except in VW's there is no ACC mode per se and the stock stereo relys on a k-bus computer signal to turn off when the ignition is off.  Hence when I use the stock harness, the radio will not turn off with the car.  Kind of a pain.  So I rerouted the yellow power wire to an empty spot in the fuse box and wallah, now the stereo turns off correctly. Buttttttt, now I get an alternator/engine whine in the background.  The red power and the ground are still going through the harness.  What can I do to get rid of the whine?

Run some searches on this site for "Noise" or "Noise Filter". You'll find a lot of info and links to some quality noise filters.
