as far as i know none of their subs are specifically designed for free air. most of their subs are designed to be in a low tuned ported box. are you planning to just mount a sub to a back deck and let it play like that?

Yes I was gonna make a mount plate for it and install it in the trunk. I'm rebuilding a Chevy nova 78 and the trunk is narrow so a typical box won't fit in the trunk

No I wouldn't use anything from RE in that sort of installation. JL Audio makes a nice 10" IB sub in their marine series. Parts Express sells some nice IB drivers that will work in the car. Don't expect high output from an "IB in the rear deck" installation.

I not looking for booming bass I just want a full sound the car comes factory one 5x7 in the front and two precut out 5x7 in the rear. So I'm going to run the 5x7 for the mids n high and the sub low . I know alpine has a 8" free air sub but I wanted to try another brand. I know kicker has as well but I'm not much a kicker fan.

Same brand everything? Why? Hey, do what you like, use whatever you want. But remember there's "doing it right" and then there's "just doing it." We always try to steer people toward doing things the right way here at the12volt. posted_image

Well it's just an option. But if you want a "free air" type installation, use a sub rated for IB installation.

Yes that's the plan the trunk is only 12/15 inches tall and about 48 wide so its long and narrow .

Well... calculate the cubic volume of the trunk and if you can seal it effectively (especially from the cabin) then you can consider it a large sealed enclosure and choose a woofer that will work in that size. Be sure to deduct for the smaller enclosures you'll need over your 5X7's if you keep them in the rear parcel shelf, and any other non-removable items like the spare tire.

I was thinking that but I didn't want to build a box lol .tht is why I was gonna go with a free AIT but it looks like I'm have to build one the trunk doest have a spot for a rear tire. I'm have to post a pic so you can see what I'm dealing with lol

No no, I am saying to use the trunk AS the enclosure. No need to build anything. You'll just have to seal up the trunk from the cabin of the vehicle, and you'll want to protect the other speakers in the parcel shelf by building "boxes" around them. Understand?
