There was a post called Best of the Best which listed the best speakers there was. Unfortunatly I can't afford any of them. What about the best mid priced (100 - 300 a pair) speakers out there? I'm partial to infinity, but everyone is saying to go with MB Quarts. So what is everyone opinions? I'm looking for 6 1/2" components for up front. I have Infinity Kappa 3-ways, with the high side going to Infinity 10T flush mount tweeters, therefor I'm looking for something to use what mounting holes I have. The rear deck has the same 3-ways and I have no intention of upgrading them. Here's what I'm looking at, feel free to add in others:

Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 ($230 - $260)
Focal Polykevlar 165K ($240 - $260)
MB Quart PSD 216 Premium ($200 - $230)

They will be powered by a Alpine F340, at most 56w RMS acroding to my little certification sheet that came with it. Thanks ahead of time for any input

Allan.

My 1st choice would be the PSD 216 and 2nd would be the 165k's. I'm not a huge fan of the kappa's

Do the MB Quarts have a very different "sound" compared to the Infinity's? I ask because I may then need to change out my rear deck with something like there PCE 216 premium line coax. I've heard both speakers but not a side by side comparison and would be worried about a big difference. I do have a AudioControl EQS, so I could make up a bit of the difference I suppose. Anyone else have any thoughts on the speakers?

They do have a different sound the Quarts are much brighter sounding. But I don’t see you having a problem using them together.

The quarts are brighter sounding?!? Geez, and I thought the Infinities were bright. In fact for to most part the setup I have with the 3 way (using only the driver) and tweeters is that of the 60.5 component set, and the tweeters are kinda harsh unless turned down through my EQS. Its one of the reasons I was looking at the perfect series because it has a adjustable -3, 0 +3 on the tweets. I have them mounted up on the doors, about 3 in below window level, swiveed and pointed twards the listener. I listen to a friends Focals today and I thought my infinity setup sounded better. I'm going to have to find someone with MB in there car, not just at the audio store before I make the switch. Anyone else want to comment?

I really didn't care for the focals when I heard them, dont get me wrong there much better then most out there but side by side with the Infinity perfects I thought the infinitys were better sounding. I havn't heard a side by side between the MB and Infinitys yet. Hey bberman1, do you think there is any problem underpowering the Quart? I ask because I have the 55 x 4 amp now with no room to get anything else in (I built a rack just as wide as my trunk hinges would allow). There rated 60 - 130, not sure if this is there way of saying RMS and peak or if it should get at least 60w RMS.

why don't you try entry level kickers or mid priced kickers. they in my opinion put off great sound and take an absolute sh*t kicking. don't mess around, get em' and thank me later

After a test listen I went with the MB Quart PSD216's. Found them new for $210 with free shipping online. Couldn't pass it up, they should be here tomorrow just in time for a weekend install. Thanks bberman1 for your suggestions, they should work just dandy with my existing Infinitys after listening to them.
