I must excuse myself for being completely limited in my knowledge of car audio, but a problem arose in my system and after an attempt to trouble shoot the problem my self with limited sucess, I felt that a professional opinion was the best route.
The Problem:
When my system is turned up any higher than 13-14 it starts to 'short out.' Almost as if the CD were skipping. I did notice that when i turned the bass and treble down the minimum playing volume went up slightly.
The wierdest thing is that after about 15 minutes of playing it then seems fine. It will play smoothly no matter how high the volume is.
The items i have are:
JVC 'cameleon' head unit, Fosgate 500x amp, and Sony Xplode speakers. 12" fosgate sub. Im not sure about the technicals of each piece. If you need that information i can get it but i hope what ive given you will be enough to give you an idea of whats the problem.

Sounds like the sound pressure levels in the car are causing the CD mechanism to skip - if this is indeed what is happening. Or maybe you are causing such a drain on your electrical system at high volumes that the voltage is dropping low enough for the JVC to think it has been powered off momentarily. Check your head unit +12v supply while you are pushing the amp and see how low it gets.
Then again, and I will probably get flamed for saying this, but it could simply be that poorly-designed JVC head unit. I have never thought their equipment was worth the price of admission. Open one up and it has by far the worst internal construction of any main-stream consumer head unit. Worse than Pioneer....
