03 Expedition, Factory Wiring Nightmare

Hey guys,

I just bought an 03 Expedition with the factory amp and sub and steering wheel controls stereo. I failed to realize when I bought the suv that the previous owner stuck a slightly older style factory radio in it, which the cd changer portion was faulty anyhow. So I went to ebay and won the bid on a nice 03 expy in dash cd changer stereo head unit. I recieved it and low and behold the factory 3 plugs on the back are different shapes. I checked and apparently there are two styles, early 03 and late 03 for the expedition. I went and ordered a metra set of plugs for the new radio and they plug in, but have quite a few wires to connect now.... My factory wiring in the dash needs to be identified ( 3 plugs ) so I know what to connect to. I think I am going to just cut off my factory ( useless ) plugs and connect directly, but need wiring color code information. Can anyone help?

I have searched google style for a wiring color code diagram but really didnt come up with anything.

I am supplying a little more info...
I went out and sat down in the suv and wrote down all wires on all 3 plugs...here we go..

small rectangle plug (4 wires total )
Red / black stripe
Brown / orange stripe
solid black
Green / dark purple or black stripe...hard to see

Blue / red stripe
solid black
another solid black
solid red
solid white
solid green
grey / black stripe
solid light blue
solid tan
light blue / pink stripe

dark brown / pink stripe

grey / blue stripe

green / black stripe

This is 30 wires total that I am going to have to identify.
Mine does have the actory amp, subwoofer and steering wheel controls so Im assuming that Is why I have a S<<< load of wires.

Now, If any one can help, I really really appreciate it.

theres not much you can do without a factory wiring diagram and even then there might be certain things that still dont translate over, specifically the steering wheel controls. you might be able to get at least the audio working by buying both metra adapter harnesses (male and female) for both radio models, this way everything will be color coded and you can match up what you can. even then it could be a long shot because factory systems are not made to be interchangeable. even radios from the same year but of a different level(base system to premium) will not work if you switch them around. it seems like a lot of work to go through for a factory radio, i know you have already spent the money but i still think you would get better results from going to an aftermarket radio.

if you want, you can post some pictures of the plugs that you have right now and the radio you are trying to install

the big plug will be your main plug with the power and main speaker wire connectors. the small plug should be for the factory sub, they are signal wires that feed the factory amp. the middle plug is probably for the extras like steering wheel controls and maybe audio for rear seat entertainment system if equipped.

It should be a Green / violet
