I'm installing a JVC head unit. I bought a vehicle specific wiring kit on ebay. Can I simply match up the colors from the back of the head unit to the wiring kit, then plug it into the car?...or do I need to find wiring diagrams for the car and the stereo and double check the function of each wire?

Connect color to color. If you have any extra wires, either on the radio or the harness, insulate them so they do not touch anything.

wire harness adapters are color coded but sometimes you need to watch out for the illumination wires(orange or ORANGE / black or ORANGE / white) because sometimes the wire acts differently than what it should. other than that all of the speakers and power wires will match up perfectly.
