I'm upgrading the speakers in my Passport but I get the distinct impression there is a crossover hidden somewhere in the dash because I have stock component speakers (separate woofers and tweeters)in the doors and the rear speakers seem to only play in the mid range even though I installed 2-ways.

Anyone familiar with the radio wiring in this vehicle?

Thanks.

I highly doubt there is a crossover. I am sure that there is a capacitor between the radio and the tweeter.

yea they are probably tied together in the pillar or door with some sort of bass blocker (capacitor) installed in line with the tweeter. a lot of times though if there is an external factory amp there can be a crossover built into the amp.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I meant capacitors but I'm not familiar with the terminology.

Anyway, what I'm looking for is the location of these capacitors to be able to bypass them and use the existing speaker wires without having to dismantle my interior looking for them or re-wire the entire system.

I did remove the door panels to see if there was anything in there near the tweeter but it looks like the wires for both the tweeter and the woofer come out of the hinge pass-through separately which leads me to believe these capacitors are under the dash somewhere. Also, there doesn't appear to be anything near the back speakers as far as I can tell from removing the cover.

Does anyone know if there is any type of factory installed stock interface block or box that would contain all the capacitors for each of the speakers or would they be individual capacitors in line somewhere?

It will be just a capacitor in series with the tweeter. If there are only 2 wires connected to the woofer, the cap should be at the tweeter. It may be attached directly to the tweeter. if there are 4 wires at the woofer, there is a good chance that the capacitor will be very near the connector of the woofer.

Sorry for the long wait - been on vacation in North Carolina mountains.

It was just as you said - the capacitors were attached to the tweeters themselves. I pulled them and the woofers and replaced with a set of Polk Audio DXi6501 component speakers which have a switched crossover. Along with the new head unit - Pioneer DEH-X9500BHS, the difference is night and day. Now on to the sub-woofer install.

Thanks for all your help.
