Hi,

I'm new to DIY car stereo install. What I'm trying to do is install an Ar ride compressor and two car stereo amps, all running from the battery under the hood. The battery is a Optima red top and the alternator is upgraded to a higher amp. What additional components will I need? I plan on using 0 gauge from the battery to distributor block and then 4 gauge to the components.

Be sure to fuse the 0-gauge at the battery and the 4-gauge at the distro block to protect the wire from overload. See the Wire Sizes link to the left.

Your vehicle only has one battery, correct? Then no.

If you want best battery life I'd recommend a normal (wet cell) cranking battery under the hood (AGMs don't like cranking).

An AGM (eg, the red) could be added/used as an internally mounted 2nd battery for the audio via a battery isolator.
