amp turn on blue wire

Is it possible for the amp turn-on blue wire to be inoperable and the rest of the stereo unit working fine? I tried connecting this wire directly to the remote turn-on of the amp and get nothing. Also tried this with a relay because sometimes these blue turn-on wires do not put out a full 12V. Still nothing. Right now my amps are turned on by a switch. I would like them to come on with the stereo and not be on the whole time the truck is on. I feel this wire is burnt somehow. I added these amps. The stereo was in the truck when I bought it.

The truck is a 1995 Ford Bronco. The stereo is a Kenwood KDC-X469. Front amp Majestic 85Wx2ch running 4-5" speakers. Rear amp Optimus 150W 4ch with 4 speakers- 6x9's & 12"s.

If there is a blue wire with a white stripe, use that one instead of the blue wire. Blue is power antenna and is only hot while listening to AM or FM. Use the volt meter to verify that voltage is not coming out of that wire. If the wire is dead, connect the amplifier remote wire to the same place you have the radio's red wire connected.   This will turn the amp on when the key is turned on.

And yes it's possible. Some head units are internally fused on the remote activation wire. What is you head unit?

I have a KDC-x469 Kenwood AM FM CD. I don't think it has a blue/white stripe wire. I really don't want to hook up amps to acc. wire because they would be getting hot premature before I would even be using them. For the front 4-5" speakers is a Majestic 85W X 2CH mounted to the passenger floor toe board up high under the heater box under the carpet. I know they are supposed to be open to keep cool but I use the bronco often for working and I need them mounted out of the way. For the rear 2-6x9, 2-12" speakers is an Optimus 150W 4CH mounted inside the console bottom. I know, it probably gets hot in there, too. Or am I wrong? Do amps only heat up when being played thru?

an amp should only get warm when you are using it, if the amp is still hot after not using it for a while then somehow the amp might be staying on constantly.

it doesnt hurt an amp to be active even when you arent listening to music and it wont draw much power unless you are sending audio through it. so if you find out that your remote wire is dead then there is nothing bad about using the acc turn on wire from the radio, its either that or hook it up through a switch or replace the radio with one that works.

Because of my tight budget I won't be buying a new head unit. Just to hear that it's ok to connect to acc. is ok w/ me. That's the way I'll go. Thanks for the help. This site has been very helpful to me.
