92 jaguar xj6 injector click in speakers

Hello,

I'm working on installing a JVC head unit in my 1992 Jaguar XJ6. The XJ6 uses a common ground for each side of the car. The front left and rear left door speakers are common ground, as are the front right and rear right. The left and right rear subwoofers have separate grounds.

So, I ran separate grounds from each front door speaker (cutting the original ground wires right at the exit from the door grommets, and ran new wires to the head unit. Wired everything up and tested the radio. Flawless when the car is off. As soon as the engine is started, I get light clicking in both front speakers (right is worse tho) that increases frequency as the engine speed changes. It's feedback from the fuel injectors. If I adjust the fader 100% to the rear, I get no clicking. With the fader normal, even at 0 volume I get clicking from the front left and right speakers.

What could be the issue here? No clicking from the rear door speakers or the rear subwoofers.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am going to guess here that the speakers are grounding to the door itself. Either by design or accident I am not sure. You can try insulating the speakers from the metal, or just replace with self insulating speakers (any modern replacement speaker should work).

Thanks for the reply. I spent a good part of the day today running both new feed and return wires to each front speaker, directly from the head unit to the speakers themselves, save for the factory connector behind the door panel. This eliminated the clicking. I'm not sure why tapping into the wire outside the door grommet caused the clicking, but after rewiring directly to the speaker, it's fine.

I can't explain it, but it's fine now. Thanks for the help.
