Hey guys,  I've got a question.  I'm thinking about converting my 97 nissan altima gxe from 6 3/4 size speakers in the rear deck to possibly 5x7 (to match the front) or 6x9.  I was wondering what brands you guys would suggest. Would a 3 way set be better than a 2 way?  I don't really wanna spend Infinity or JBL types of money.  I was actually considering something from Polk Audio or maybe Alpine.  Opinions on this are welcome.  Thanks

I actually went with a set of Cerwin Vega 6x9s and I absulutely loved them.  They had good highs and also hit pretty low.  They were very clean and I think I spent about $140 for the pair.  I also think that pioneer puts out a nice set of 6x9s.  They would be a bit cheaper.  But with all car audio, you get what you pay for.

I would suggest MB Quart they are one of the top manufactures out there and you can find them much cheaper than you think. I would suggest MB Quarts DTC 169 for your 6X9's https://www.mbquart.com/2003/en_US/products/prod_detail.asp?isArchive=&cat=auto&series=discus%20series&strt=1&model=DTC+169 can be found for under $100. For your 5X7's I would suggest some MB Quart DKD 157 https://www.mbquart.com/2003/en_US/products/prod_detail.asp?isArchive=&cat=auto&series=discus%20series&strt=1&model=DKD+157 you can find them for around $60.

Sweekster,

It's funny that you post this now.  I just put in Polk Audio's Composite speakers in my 94 Altima this past weekend (front and rear).  I have to tell you..you will not regret it.  I was very pleased and to be honest, a coworker just purchased a Bose system and was very impressed with the sound of my Polk Audios.

If you haven't already, come and check out or Forums at www.altimas.net      There is alot of useful info there about our Altys.  See ya around.

Hey SubXero, what size speakers are in the back of your altima 6x9 or 6 3/4?

They are 6 3/4

The best way that I have found to gauge what speakers will fit our cars is by going to crutchfield.com.  You can enter vehichle specifics and it will tell you what will fit in the factory cut out.  I went with factory specs so they would fit under the stock grills.  And the Polks have a B I G sound for a smaller speaker.

This link will take you straight to the "What Fits My Car" section of crutchfield.   https://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-y1o2dRbHuHA/autoinfo/autoinfo.asp?s=0&cc=01&vehicleid=0

Which model of polk speakers did you put in the back of your car?  Because I was looking at the polk composites that crutchfield offers and they only carry a 6 1/2.  Did you use an adapter or spacer to make the composites fit?
