I am trying to install an aftermarket sub/box and amp in my nefew's 2012 bighorn dodge quad cab. He has the factory sub in it. Can anyone tell me which wires do i need to use to hook up to a line in converter to make a set of rca plugs? There are 4 wires that feed the factory sub and not sure if i should use all four or someone mentioned to me to use only two and run the line in in a serise. Also i do not understand the color code on the wires that feed the factory sub to deturmain what is pos or neg. Any advise will be helpfull.

If you are removing the factory sub, cut the 4 wires back far enough from the woofer that you can strip the insulation off of the wires that go to the woofer and connect them to a 9 volt battery. It is a dual voice coil woofer. There will be 2 combinations that make the speaker pop when the battery is connected. When you get the woofer to pop, you want to notice the direction it moves when the battery voltage is applied. When it moves toward the cabin of the truck you have the positive wire of that coil connected to the positive terminal of the battery. On those same colored wires, but the ones that go to the truck is what you want to connect 1 channel of the line out converter. The other 2 wires should also make it pop. Do the same thing to determine positive and negative. Connect channel 2 of the line out converter to these wires.

just to make sure I have it clear when you say the speaker should pop towards the cabin does mean when the sub strokes away from the box?

also you will probably want to disconnect the factory sub completely and just use the wires to convert to an RCA. if you keep both the factory sub and the new sub playing together it could cause a feedback loop that makes a loud hum after the bass hits. this may or may not happen but why keep the factory sub playing anyway when you are installing something that is probably much better sounding.

Yeah I agree. There is a local box builder , www.foxacoustics.com, that builds custom boxes that sound amazing. Well he is replacing his factory sub with a fox box, alpine type r 10 dual 4ohm, and a diamond 600.1 amp (he already had the amp). I put a ported fox box in my truck, alpine type r 10" sub, and alpine m-55 amp and after hearing it he wants the same sub and box lol.
