I need some opinions on coaxials.
I know that coaxials used to be worse than components, has anything changed in the last 2 years or so?????
Are there any good sounding coaxials out there for a good price?????

I want lots of opinions on this, and some recomendations.

I recently purchased a pair of CDT 6.5 inch Baraxials. I have really enjoyed these. The tweeter is mounted on a pole seperately from the woofer and it has a crossover that comes with the whole set. I also have CDT 6.5 in. midbass speakers and an image enhancement system with a second pair of tweeters you can flush or surface mount. These I have never heard such sound quality for the price I paid. I found an online dealer that I talked to extensively before I made my purchase. I told him my system set-up and he custom tailored speakers, tweeters, and crossovers to what I needed. Not a cookie cutter job and definately worth the price. These speakers are relatively new to the united states. They are manufactured in finland. You can go to there website www.cdtaudio.com for more info.

coaxs rarely reproduce the sound that a set of separates can...

now, that being said, I can kind of contradict myself and reccommend some very nice sounding coax speakers...

a/d/s has some very nice sounding 3 series coaxs...Focal has some very nice sounding PolyGlass coaxs as well...the CDT is nice stuff as well, although I havent personally heard the coaxs, I have played with their separates and verify that the separates are nice and clean...

the separates sound better in most situations IMO, but that doesnt mean that the coaxs are necessarily garbage...if all I could do in an install was a set of coaxs, that is all I would do and I wouldnt feel bad about it either...

If I can pick up the Focal components for a good price compared with the coaxials, I will pick up the coaxials.

Anyone else out there have views on coaxials???????

Yeah I'll kick in my two cents.  From personally listening to them, I have taken a liking to the Alpine Type R series.  They are a pretty penny but well worth it, and I'll probably invest in some of those pretty soon.
At the moment, I'm enjoying a set of Infinity coax speakers.  Their Reference and Kappa line differ only in power handling, depending on if you run them from an amp or your HU.  Obviously if you aren't pushing them with an amp then save some money and go for the references.
Last but not least, I have heard nothing but praise for MB Quarts.  Go to www.mbquart.com and take a look, they offer several different series of coax speakers.  From not having heard any personally, I can't make a recco on these but I can say that the people on this board seem to love these speakers.
There ya go, good luck.

even thoug htere are some very nice coax's out there, they can't compete and fall short of a set of separates in the imaging departme

being able to put the tweeters where they perfrom best is the main advantage of a component system, plus the external crossovers.
