New system, depressing results.

Hi folks, I am new to forums here. I usually refrence the12volt when I need info but I'm really bummed about my new system and the sound I seem to be stuck with.

I have an 01 Dodge Ram 1500 that I have completely replaced the stock audio with the new shiny stuff. I installed the Pioneer DEH80PRS, a Soundstream STL1.1200D amp, 2 JL Audio 10TW1 subs in sealed box under rear seat, and 2 alpine type r 6x9s in front doors w/ alpine type r 5 1/4 rear doors.

The subs are single voice coil and 4ohm wired to 2ohm and bridged on the amp. Which should mean the amp is pushing a maximum of 650 watts rms.

Each sub is rated at 300 rms with a 600 peak. The bass is almost non existent. I have to crank the gain for the subs on both the amp and the deck to get decent volume from the bass and by then it's just a muddy mess.

So have a made bad choices for my equipment? I did quite a bit of reading before settling on my subs and deck but now I'm just dissapointed. I am not looking for huge boom, I just want tight controlled punch out of my subs as I like heavy metal and rock with the double bass kick.

I haven't tried network mode on the deck yet but I was going to wait until I had a 4 ch amp to power my front and rears. Could that help in giving me more control? I'm just lost, and broke lol this system drained my wallet.

If you disconnect 1 woofer does it sound better?

Subs are wired paralell for 2 ohm load. So I only have one set of wire to the amp. And I was mistaken it's a mono block so it's not bridged both sets of terminals are just one channel

Wondering if you have an adjustable line converter installed that needs adjusting? Try another input source to power the rcas....know any friends with a system? Run a jumper set of rcas from their car to your amp. Should be able to do it without taking anything apart.

Where are your crossover settings at? If you are not getting a noticeable difference in output when adjusting the gain then that may be the issue.

"Non existent" bass is usually an installation or setup issue. It is also in the ear of the beholder, depending on what you expected. Regardless, I suggest you make certain the two woofer are in electrical phase with one another first. Meaning, all + is connected together and all - is connected together. Then properly set your gain (see the Hot Topics forum for instructions.) If it still sounds "non existent" to you, try moving the woofers out from under the seat and test that sound, it could be that is simply not a good location in your vehicle. Report back when you've tried these things.

But you said the amp was bridged. That would be a 1-Ohm load. Is the amp 1-Ohm stable?

Unplug one woofer while playing bass. If it gets better, one sub is wired in wrong polarity.

How are the subs connected at the amp.
That is a mono block amp with 4 terminals. 2 pos, 2 neg. Make sure you have them connected properly.
Also, check your polarity and resistance. Do this with the wires NOT connected to the amp so that you don't read any internal resistance.
