do i need these special $80 modules to install a headunit in a 04 trailblazer if i dont care about chimes and onstar? my new winter beater has onstar, steering wheel controls, no bose so i dont think it has an amp. websites show i need special boxes to install a headunit. is there a way around this? i seen one utube video of a guy bypass it but he was kinda hilbilly and hard to understand if he knew what he was doing. seemed like he just needed to come up with his own power/switched power.

RED wire from aftermarket radio goes to PINK switched wire at the ignition switch. ** This will defeat all safety chimes, lights and reminders and in some provinces and states this action does not allow for a vehicle safety pass **

Any chimes that would normally go through the stereo : seat belt, lights on reminder & low fuel .

trailblazers do not have any visible labels if they are bose. If you know the trim codes for the sticker in the glove box you can tell that way. I believe there is a sticker on the outside of the speaker mount behind the door panel. Also one could try popping the speakers from the radio harness.

The Bose units I have seen are labeled on the front door speaker grills. The ones that are labeled require a 150 dollar harness.
