i swapped this headunit into both my cars just to be sure, it seems to sound very flat no matter how i set the eq. i might return it for a pioneer, any one else ever thought the kenwoods sounded flat? i only have another week or two to return on amazon

Hard to say what you mean by "flat" but if you don't like it you don't like it. I would recommend Alpine or even JVC over Pioneer.
