Hi.
I haven't been able to find a clear answer to this: Would eight 50 watt speakers be louder than four 100 watt speakers? I understand different characteristics in setup change parameters but just in general....

All things being the same with the exception of power handling and efficiency and if the efficiency rating of the 50 watt speakers is greater than 3 db less than the 100 watt speakers efficiency rating, then the eight 50 watt speakers will be louder. If everything is the same except power handling, the eight 50 watt speakers should be 3 db louder than the four 100 watt speakers. When you double cone area or power, SPL increases by 3 db.

Thanks for answering so quickly.
I keep oscillating between choices of speakers for this build. Two that I keep coming back to are Polk 2way 5s 50rms 93db & Cerwin Vega 2way 8s 100w 93db but since I have little interest either's bass response I'm leaning towards the 5s but I needed that question answered. Thanks again
