Is there something wrong with my amp

Hello 12 volt people my car amp keeps going into protect each time i play the car stereo at high volumes. I have to keep reseting it this is the method that i used from this car audio website. I have to do this each and every time. I have checked all the wiring and everything, ground is good, power wire in good shape, everything seems to be ok.

Do you think it is the amp or the electrical to weak cause i am not sure. I have got a nissan 300zx with a stock alternator running two deep cycle batteries back into the trunk. Running around 5000 rms overall two subs and two mono block amps. The amps wasnt running into to protect when i got them, its just an issue that has occured lately.

Any input would be helpful guys cheer.

At this point your guess is as good as ours.
You need to do some basic testing to narrow down the problem. I assume you visually looked over the entire system, like inspecting the connections to eliminate the possibility of wiring rattling loose.

Now to the electrical stuff, Do you have a Digital Multi-Meter?
Set it to DC VOLTS and connect the test leads at the amplifier's power and ground terminals.

Now post here what you read in these 3 conditions

1. When the car is off . = ______________volts
2. When the car is running = _____________volts
3. play music, and closely look at any changes in the volts as the music gets louder. See how low the volts go when the amps go into protect mode.

Do this, and report. we'll go from there.

5000 watts RMS? Really? Is your sub an MTX Jackhammer? Just kidding. Do you ever check the actual voltage at your batteries with the engine off? I have lotsa crap in my truck but I still use a battery charger after going for a ride and blasting the subs at a billion decibels for 3 hours. With my two deep cycles I connect the positive charger lead at battery number 1 positive, and the negative charger lead at battery number 2 negative. This pulls the charge all the way through both batteries.

If it is only at high volume that it is going into protect, it could be that you are "clipping" the system, whether it is the sub or other speakers. if you are "clipping" the system then you may just need to readjust you settings to make sure they are matched. After you find out if it is a voltage issue the next step would be to test the audio signal if it is still happening. You would need either a Oscope or at minimum a DD-1+. Having an RTA would be a great way to see what you are working with as well but not really going to help if you are testing.

It's either clipping or dropping voltage, could even be a cable corroding inside the ring terminal. When I have an issue, I pull every wire loose, and then reconnect. That way I have physically checked and verified every connection. It's the same thing as measure twice, cut once.
