Subject: In line Fuse voltage to amp
Date Posted: April 15, 2016 at 1:07 AM

I have 14.4 volts going into my inline power amplifier 40 amp fuse. On the output side of the fuse however, the voltage drops to 1.2 to 1.4 volts approximately. The 5 channel amp does not have any lights or other visual confirmation of power.

I have checked ground at amp as well as both fuses in the amp.

I am probably overlooking something very basic.
I have digital fluke meter to test. Any thoughts, suggestions, are greatly appreciated.

Change the fuse that has 14 volts on one side and 1.4 on the other side.

Have you checked that the remote wire has power?

If I am understanding you correctly you have 12 volts at your fuse but 1.2 volts at the amp.
Remove the power and ground from the amp. Check them not connected to the amp. If you have 12 volts on the constant then you may have an internal issue with the amp.
Make sure that you connect the positive lead from you meter to your constant from the battery and negative lead to your ground wire.
If this test still shows 1.2 volts then you may have an issue with the fuse and/or fuse holder.

If he disconnects the power and ground from the amplifier he will get 14 volts. With the amp disconnected there will be no current draw through the bad fuse. No current draw = 0 voltage drop.

I have 18.65 volts incoming to the inline fuse under the hood. On the output side of the same fuse under the hood, my meter (and amp power) read 1.02 volts.

My H/U displays but no sound of any kind. I have tested and replaced the power amp fuse under the hood without any change.posted_image

The fuse and fuse holder are both brand new "DB Link" products.

18.65V???? Sounds like you have bigger issues to deal with. If you are running a standard 12V electrical system, 14.7 would be highest you would want to see. I would say your voltage regular has failed and or the alternator has gone full field. Very good change you have fried a few things if the voltage is that high.

Sorry I fat fingered my message above. I have 13.65-13.78V on the incoming side of the fuse but only 1.0 V on the outgoing side of the fuse to the amp.

Can I change my username to I am Invisible? Change your brand new fuse that the element has come unsoldered from one end. Or temporarily eliminate the fuse to see if it plays. If it plays with the fuse jumped put the fuse back inline and do some more troubleshooting.

There should not be a voltage drop across the fuse. The fuse is defective. Checking continuity is not going to show it in this case but the conductor has failed and the fuse is bad.

You were absolutely correct. This was the problem. Once I removed the fuse I saw the broken solder at one end of the fuse.

Thank you Thank you Very Much 😃😃👍🏻

I really hope you got it working a while back and it just took you 7.5 months to let us know you got it working.
