Amp got zapped by the cap, help?

I had to re crimp the connector that was holding my ground wire on my cap. When I re connected it I just threw it back on real quick with everything still connected. My Amp was grounded at the same point as the cap ( I know now, not a good idea) and there was an arc when I put the ground wire on the neg. post. I think the cap may have sent a voltage charge through the ground connection into my amp.I didnt think that could happen but, now my amp goes into protection mode as soon as there is a signal sent to it. If I unplug the RCA cables the amp is fine, but put it under load and it clips.

Is this with the cap still hooked up, or a direct connection from the amp to the battery? ------------- Ethan

Well, the initall reconnection was with the cap still connected to the amp. However I did take the cap out and reconnected the amp directly to the batt. and disconnected the ground from the cap as to totally isolate the amp from the cap and the problem was still present.

This is gonna sound kinda funnny, but.....put your nose up to the amp and take a big whiff! If there's any kind of "electrical" smell then your amp was most likely damaged inside when that arc occurred. ------------- Ethan

make sure connections are good . also disconect speaker outs reconnect rcas and then turn on check,. see if it goes into protection mode. also take a meter multy or anything that will show you how many volts is in the power wire to the amp. connect negative side of teater to ground and possitive side to first batt wire and than second to the remote wire, make sure they are both getting at least 12 volts when car is off and higher when the car is on.
