i came across the DD-1 distortion detector, i don't really feel a need for it just to set amp gains but it seems handy for finding the head unit clipping volume. is there another way to find this volume, like with a multimeter? i've always done the 75% of max volume for head unit level but knowing for sure would be nice.

Believe that would require an oscilloscope and a knowledge of how to read it. 75% is easier and works well, or the dd1 are the only options I know of.
