I have been searching tirelessly for what wire is which in my 2001 Toyota Highlander to install an amplifier and subwoofer. I've found 3 readily available ones online BUT all are different, and all have colors that aren't even seen or multiples of the same color! This same question was asked in 2oo2 on this forum and was answered by the12volt saying:

"Hi sketman, here's the only stereo wiring info I have for a 2001 Highlander:
Battery (+): Blue / YELLOW
Accessory (+): Gray
Ground (-): Black
Illumination: Green (+)
Power Antenna: Blue
Front Speakers
Size: 6 1/2"
Left (+): Pink
Left (-): Violet
Right (+): Green
Right (-): Blue
Rear Speakers
Size: 6 1/2"
Left (+): Black
Left (-): Yellow
Right (+): Red
Right (-): White"

Ok... but there is no violet wire! Why is this so difficult to get ahold of? I've never done this before and looked in the manual, I called the dealership, I was referred to a Chilton manual, I went to car toys, Best Buy, and a local audio install shop and all three cant tell me anything because of liability.. finally was referred to this forum. If there's no help here I'll just let the mystical magical car toys point at the wires for me for $200 because I've done everything else.

If there is no violet wire, use the 2 rear speakers to get input for your line out converter.

But there's only one black wire and it says both the ground wire is black and the rear speaker wire is black so it makes me dismiss the information entirely as fake. That's why.

Which one of these look like the plug you have going into the back of your radio?

My guess is the latter. If so, there is a factory amplifier supposedly located behind the trim in the cargo area passenger side of the vehicle. At that amplifier you will find wiring that matches the info you originally posted.

Good call, it's the 2nd one. Thanks for the tip. Also thE pink and violet wire identification matches the wires attached to the speaker. From there it comes out from a circuit and is scrambled someway and with different wire colors throughout. Is it uncommon to wire the line output converters in the door?

If you put it in the door you will have to get it through the boot to get it into the vehicle. DId you look for the amplifier?

No I haven't looked for the amp.

Much easier to put it at the amplifier than run wires in or out of both doors.
