Wired for 1 Ohm But Reading 2.5 Ohms

First off hello and thank you for taking some time out to share some knowledge. This is what I got: 2 power acoustik GW-124 subwoofers they are 4 ohm DVC 12in. Subs with a max of 2500w - 1250w RMS (as per an email from the manufacture). My amp is a SSL Force 2500D and it is good down to 2 ohm. Iam well awaire that 2 4ohm DVC subs can only be wired effectively at a 1 ohm or 4 ohm load so I wired for 4 ohm. After a few weeks I got curious and tried them in a 1 ohm configuration and set the gain with my multimeter. Worked great but brought up the question of an under rated amp (unlikely) or false speaker ohm. I tested both the amp put out 46.7v a/c @ a 4ohm load so thats a believable output of 545 watts then I tested the ohm load being presented to the amp I got 9.7 ohms. This is how they were both wirednterm/a: +to amp,-to term/b+, term/b- to amp. If both coils are 4 ohm then each spkr is wired to 8 ohm.at the amp I combine both +s & both-s for a total load of laod of 4ohm, right? When I tested I and got 9.7ohms. I tested each terminal block individually and this is what I got. Spkr1/term1: 4.6, term2: 6.1, spkr2/term1: 4.0, term2:6.6. How could this be? Is it burnt coils on both subs? A manufacture mistake (intentual or not) or what? Its kinda confusing and what I have writen here is indicative of my extremely limited knowledge on the subject. I thought about wiring the 6ohm coils for a 3ohm load and the 4ohm coils for a 1ohm load? What do you guys think is causing the diffrent readings and what should I do in this situation?

Meter is a Klein cl1000.
Box is 3.6cu.ft. tuned @ approx. 35htz,(4in.x11in. portsx2 external) and
   the subs are inverted to keep the coils in fresh air to help keep
   them cool.
Truck is a 95 Ranger farm truck (the pigs love feeling their music and I
    Love the looks I get when I drive it to town).
Head unit is a JVC KD-R120.
Cap. Is a RF 1 farad to knock the edge off the lights dimming.

If you hold the meter leads together what does that read? And when you are checking the coils of the speaker is the magnet down or up?
