Greetings! first time poster here. looking for some info on the infinity system in a 99 dodge dakota. mainly what the original ohm load was. ive read around that the original speakers were 2 ohm, but of course want to make sure before i slap some new 2 ohm drivers in it. Maybe if someone has some real tech specs on these factory amps post that too. If for some reason the originals were not lower than 4 Ohm, then i'll just bypass the factory amp and get one of those 40Wx4 "brick" amps to shave behind my Aftermarket Head Unit
Thanks!

It may be difficult to find aftermarket 2 ohm speakers to fit into the OEM locations. You could always use your meter to measure the nominal impedance of any good remaining speakers, but for what it's worth, I'd go the 4 ohm route you mentioned above and be done with it.

your best bet would be to use either jbl or infinity speakers if you are keeping the factory infinity amp. There usually 3 ohms. I would bypass the amp and use a power pack instead. You really wont hear a sound difference between 2 3 4 ohm speakers but new speakers and a power pack will be a night and day difference.

If it has 2 ohm speakers and you replace them with 4 ohm drivers, you will notice a decrease in sound output. A noticeable decrease.

wirewise - For 2 Ohm speakers i was going to use PowerBass L2 series using speaker adapters. when i got the truck it already had all 4 speakers replaced with PowerBass S-6502's so the only originals speakers left are the door tweeters.

mgoetz74 - Ive looked at the 3 Ohm JBL's or infinity's before, i may run with those in the end. about $20 more for those then the PowerBass L2's. if i have to run a power pack i'll grab a Pioneer GM-D1004. since, well it will go perfect with my MVH-S501BS

After a couple hours of thinking, im trying to choose against the JBL Club 6520 and Infinity Primus PR6512is

JBL 3 Ohm 92dB sensitivity
Infinity 2.7 Ohm 88dB sensitivity
PowerBass L2-652 2 Ohm 88dB sensitivity

Which do you guys think would be louder on the 35W or so of the factory amp? i think the JBL's would be louder

I agree, the JBL's would be louder.
