I am going to order some wire loom for the 4gauge wire I have but was not sure the size I should get.

1/2" or larger

1/2" for just one 4-gauge wire is way too big I think.  Check out this chart just for an idea about the actual diameter of the wires.

Wouldn't you have to account for the wire sheathing too? I've seen 4-gauge wire where the sheathing was just as thick as the wire itself (that is to say if you squeezed the sheath together it was about the same thickness as the diameter of the wire). I think that may have been where ull3030 came up with 1/2 inch. Or he may have come up with it out of thin air, I don't know I'm just bored and rambling posted_image
