just started building a sub box for my dakota and i was wondering what is the most accurate tool for cutting out the holes for the subs.  I was thinking jig saw but what do you guys use.  Also where can i get some cheap box carpet

I use a router and a circle cutting jig. The jig runs about $30 but you can build your own out of wood to save you money. I bought my router at sears and the jig at lowes home improvement. That has been the most acurate for me. You can also use the dremel that comes with a circle cutting jig that I believe can cut up to a 12" radius. As far as "cheap" box carpet you can find that at either autozone or walmart. Use 3m spraying glue which I find works best for bonding real good.

well i work at sears so i can get tools cheap, just didn't know which one to buy, i was thinking of using a spiral saw, like a rotozip.

Rotozips are pretty good, but the standard circle jig for the roto zip will not do a 15" woofer.  As long as you are building a box for 10's or 12's you should be fine.  I think that they do have a circle jig for the rotozip that will extend to 24"  I think that routers and circle jigs are more commonly used when the circle has to be perfect---fiberglassing, but a steady hand and a good ole jig saw is fine it is just a plain ole box.

Hope this helps,

-Cy

the rottozip works well and it comes with the hole jig. it only gos up to 14" so if you have 15's you have to free hand. but the rottozip its easy to free hand. carpet go to autozone.

I use a jigsaw. As for the blade, get the best blade that you afford a good blade will give you a better looking circle. For the port you can use a hole saw. Try your local carpet store, they might have what you need or direct to one.

Best Buy sells grey subwoofer carpeting, but on the packaging it's called "trunk liner" or something like that.  I think it's like 10 bucks for enough to do a 12" box but I don't remember the dimensions exactly.
