As far as I know a capacitor is a capacitor, and brand and/or price has basically nothing to do with the performance. Just make sure it is properly charged before using it. ------------- Ethan

I agree with what esmith69 said above, a capacitor is a capacitor and the name really doesn’t matter. But for purchasing capacitors on line I would suggest this site https://store.yahoo.com/mobile-emotions/capicitors.html they have one of the largest selections on cap's that I have seen and there prices are reasonable

thanks for the info the mobile-emotions site is awsome! I guess my next question is there a certain size cap I should use, and is bigger better. I have around 750 watts rms I was going to get a 2 fard cap, is that to big, or does it take to long to be charged or what . I am not really sure how they charge or work. I also noticed that some come with mounting brackets etc and some dont' is there a install kit for just caps or is it just a matter of some wire. ------------- --ZX9R

A 1 farad is plenty for that amount of power. They recharge instantly.

The rule of thumb is 1 farad for every 1000 watts rms. But it never hurts to have too much power, plus it leaves room to grow. As far as charging goes some capacitors require that you charge them before you hook them up for the first time. They have a resistor and you must trickle charge it through the resistor before hooking it up. Others will charge themselves automatically without hooking up the resistor. I would suggest that you go with the AA (American Accessories) they do not require a resistor charge. You just hook them up give them a couple of minuets to charge themselves and their good to go.

I recommend theZEB.com, they have a lot of stuff there. I search everywhere b4 i buy my audio.. so far they have the lowest.. also they have a thing goin if you find a lower price they match it or go lower..also they have a closeout section from last years stuff, and some new stuff. Uh, on the lightning audio cap, the storm series, does that require the trickle charge? ------------- I need quality equipment, feel free to donate.

bberman1 Thanks for the great explanation. I really appreciate the details on the capacitor. I was looking at the 2.0 Farad Capacitor Impulse brand. Does this brand have to be charged before installaiton and if so is this a big deal? I also had a question about noise filters, will this cut down on sound quality comingout of th head unit? Is there any particular brand that is better than the other? ------------- --ZX9R

Truthfully, until I got into car audio, I'd never heard of a 1F capacitor, really all you need for about 500W would be about 50000uF, but to be save we'll say 100000uf, when I hear 1F about 10x what you need for a 1000w it's laughable, get an aftermarket alternator. That bogus rule of thumb won't dissapoint, but a .5F should be more than enough.
