Wiring Aftermarket Radio to 2000 Ford Crown Victoria

I have a 2000 ford crown victoria police interceptor in the vin it has the p71.

I want to install a aftermarket radio and followed this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OThxY0oRjp0&t=809s

So i fount the constant wire using my test light....then later he says that in order to find the accessory you need to turn the car ignition to ON, which i did but no other wire light up.

Now turning off the ignition , i turned my headlights on and touched all other wires (except constant) and a light blue/dark pink wire lit up.

I've looked alll over the internet on how to locate the accessory fuse for a 2000 ford crown vic and nothing comes up. I dont know but everything that i have seen online such as wiring diagrams , manuals does not match my ford.

If i can find the accessory wire from the ford and or the accessory fuse or any fuse that can be replaced so that i can find the accessory wire would be great!

I know this cannot be that hard to achieve. I dont know how many images I can upload on here but I wish there was a facebook page because i know someone can help me.

Fuse 11 in the interior compartment is listed for radio and should be 5 amps on accessory power. You have a 15 amp fuse there:

Your accessory lead behind the radio should be yellow/black. If this doesn't have power with the key in the accessory position, you can run a wire from the ignition harness. Check the black/green wire. It should test as accessory power.

Okay let me see if i have a 5amp fuse will a 3amp work?

Ok my bad i circled the wrong one i see fuse 11 yeah let me go out there and try a 3mp because i dont have any 5 amps that size...

for a wire what type of wire can i use? I've never done the method of running a wire from the ignition harness

I hope you did not cut off the factory plug to the radio. If so, you could have bought an adapter that would plug right into that same harness.

3 amps is fine just to test. It's perfectly safe to replace a fuse with a smaller value. If it's replaced with a higher rated fuse, it can allow more current to pass than the wire it's supposed to protect and a fire could potentially start.

First, place your fuse in spot 11 and see if the yellow/black wire has power with the key in the accessory position.

18 gauge would be fine if you have to run one. I'd fuse it at your connection point. Solder your connections and cover them with electrical tape. It's a good idea to place a zip tie over the end of the tape so it doesn't unravel and come loose.

I did cut the factory plug connector to the ford I might just end up buying an adapter but its too late for that?

It's up to you. You could splice the factory connector back and use an adapter. Or, since it's already been cut, just leave it as is and continue. At least you know for next time.

The adapters make wiring simple since the wires are standard aftermarket colors. Connect yellow to yellow, red to red, black to black, etc. Then when you get rid of the vehicle it's easy to remove and put the original radio back.

Well good news i put in that 3amp fuse and tested for accessory and it lit up! 😄 but so far i got the left and right front speakers working but getting the left and right rear is a challenge. Im not sure whats appropriate but i turn the car to the on position and while the radio is on a low volume ill grab each wire and touch each one until i hear a sound. Is that a safe method. I provided an image of the fords wires. Mt phone has ran out of space so taking pictures i cannot do right now

thank you for your help. i got all the wires installed. Next time ill just be patient and buy the adapter so i wont have to multilate the cars original radio wires.
