The vehicle is a 2016 Nissan NV 3500.

After months of researching, and going back and forth, I decided to buy the Joying 10.1" head unit:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L9TD3D5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also purchased this, which, as I understand it will convert my factory backup camera to regular a/v cables:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MXJFWMJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I am still not sure what trim adapter I need. I am waiting until the head unit comes in, so I can get an idea of fitment.

I emailed Joying asking about what else I need. They told me that I need a canbus decoder and amplifier adapter.

My experience with installs are from the 80's and 90's (pull out the old one, splice in the new one). I am at a lost for what I need to purchase. I obviously did some Google research before coming here, but I am unsure of what to get. Can I please ask for y'all's help?

Thank you!

just a warning on those units, i put one (well actually 3) in a 2012 jeep liberty last December. Worked for a few days then would freeze and lock up, sometimes barley making it past the boot up screen. Second one didnt even work out of the box (wouldnt come on) and third the gps wouldn't find the radio. After the third one he just returned it and bought one from me. Spent along time trying to figure the problems out, even testing on the bench with separate power/speakers. Standard double din radio dash kit is what is needed- 99-7614 and the harness would be-70-7552, antenna adapter-40-NI12. I cant speak to the canbus decoder or the anything else since the jeep didn't need it. Just a warning, hope this helps

Thank you very much for your reply. I did extensive research, and I realize that it is somewhat of a gamble. But, the positive reviews seem to outweigh the negative ones. Also, I have been in contact with them prior to purchasing, and they seem pretty responsive.   But, I do realize that I am not getting an American or European product.

I assume the Canbus gives me access to things such as tire pressure sensor. What else would the Canbus be needed for? (i.e. can I do without it?)

Thanks again!

yeah its probably for the tire monitors, door open, back up camera, maybe steering wheel controls if it has a factory amp and it maybe data controlled. Never done a nissan nv 3500

I believe that the NV is basically the Titan with a passenger cab in place of the bed. Where would I even start looking for it? Have you ever used a canbus decoder for a different vehicle? Can you send me a link, so I can get an idea of what I am looking for?

Thanks!

OK. So the unit is partially installed.

Firstly, anyone with the same vehicle as mine who is later looking at this post:
In order to remove the head unit, you need to first remove all of the plastic trim from the far left (beginning with the large piece under the wheel, then the top and bottom of the wheel shroud, then you have access to the two screws holding in the trim covering the head unit. There are another two screws on the right side (after you remove the vent trim). Afterwards, there are screws holding the head unit in, and voila! I ordered, but did not use the Metra trim for my vehicle (Metra 99-7614 Nissan NV/Quest 2011-UP Single and Double DIN); the brackets from my factory head unit worked just fine. And since the screen completely covers the opening, I did not see a need for any additional trim.

What is working:

- Factory antenna (I used this part: Metra Electronics 40-NI12)
- Regular head unit functionality (I used this wiring harness: Metra 70-7552)

What is currently not working:

- The factory backup camera
- The factory USB port (located under the a/c controls)
- Steering Wheel Controls (SWC)
- CAN connection (I do not know what to purchase)

I had ordered this for the backup camera: Axxess AX-NIS32SWC-6V. But, after I got it, upon further investigation, it seems that I also need this: Metra Axxess ASWC-1 Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface. So I ordered the ASWC-1, as well as a female mini to regular male USB adapter. The factory cable coming from the USB port under the a/c controls has a mini usb connector. So I purchased the adapter to be able to retain that plug (and avoid having to stick a USB in the glove box, or somewhere else).

Am I missing anything else that I need? Will the ASWC-1 that I purchased allow me to use factory backup camera as well as SWC? Worse case scenario, the Joying has two wires labeled Key 1 and Key 2 which I can splice into my factory wiring, and manually program. I would prefer to splice as little as possible, though.

Is there anyway I can retain the factory GPS?

Attached is a picture of the harnesses from my vehicle.

Starting from the far left: The blue plug is for the GPS; the black one is the mini USB; the 24-pin plug with nothing plugged into it, is I believe the SWC; the plug with a harness plugged in is the main harness; the gray plug second from the left is the radio antenna (with the adapter I purchased plugged in); the pink plug is unknown. The pink plug is in taped up with the antenna, and is routed together with it as far as I can see into the inside of the vehicle. Interestingly, there is another plug (seen in the faded background, bottom right), that is tied up with the main harness, but was not plugged in to the factory head unit. Maybe to save costs the wiring is the same from one trim level to another trim level, and that harness would be for one without NAV, or something? Any ideas?

So to sum up: I still need SWC, backup camera, and maybe factory GPS. Also, can someone please advise me what to purchase to allow connection to my canbus?

Anyone with some knowledge greater than mine, care to help?

The unit is great, though. Amazing screen, pretty quick. All-in-all, so far so good!

The swc-6v is what you need for the back up camera.

Thank you for the reply. I have purchased that one, but I cannot figure out the proper wiring. There are two plugs which do not fit into anything (maybe the ASWC-1?), and little documentation. Can you point me to any reference information?

Thanks!

The unidentified plug is for the aswc-1. Did it not come with instructions? I do have one at work I can photograph the instructions and post them.

Just below the picture on left side of page is a link labeled instructions. It is a PDF file.

I purchased the AX-NIS32SWC-6V from Amazon. If I recall, the product description listed my vehicle (2016 NV 3500, which is basically the same as the Titan). However, on Access's website, 2015 is the latest model year. That explains why the white connector on the harness does not fit anything in my vehicle. Can I just cut off the plug, and splice directly in, or do you think there is another plug n play product for my vehicle? If I should cut, any idea where I can get the wire outs for the Axxess?

Thank you!
