Hi,

The midrange speaker in my driver's side door rattles when the stereo is playing. My research indicates that it is a 6.5 cm 8 ohm driver. 2.5" drivers appear to be the closest available match. I have also seen people repair the speaker by gluing the cone where it has separated, but they do not indicate the symptom that led them to inspect the speaker, so I am not sure if that is my problem, and I don't want to take the door off until I have what I need to replace or repair it. There are a few 2.5" drivers available for about the price of the glue I would need to fix the speaker if the separation is the issue. Therefore, I have a few questions:

1. Any words of warning against replacing the stock driver with another 8 ohm driver?
2. Does anyone know of a driver that fits and sounds good? (If not, see further questions below.)
3. What is the maximum depth of the replacement driver?
4. Are the location of mounting holes around replacement speaker drivers uniform, or is there a workaround if the holes do not line up?
5. Is it a good idea to replace the 6x9 bass speaker in the door while I have it open, for sound quality or durability reasons?

Thanks,

siggie

I found a picture of the speaker and housing in case that can help someone answer my questions.

Well, I removed the door panel and discovered that, although it sounded like the rattle was coming from the midrange, it was in fact coming from the 6x9 woofer, which has many possible replacements available.

Both speakers in the door are 8-ohms, and are in parallel to the amp. Replace with 8-ohm drivers.
