Did it have a gold JBL logo on the front of the radio? Did he purchase the appropriate wiring harness?

Is the volume of the music really loud at volume 5 or so?

With that system, if he is still using the JBL amplifier it requires getting signal from the RCA jacks, not the speaker wires of the new radio.

I am assuming he cut the plug off of the car's harness. He is going to have to get a short RCA cable, cut it in half. Strip it to expose the center conductor and the shield. Wherever he has the white pair of speaker wires connected, connect the center conductor of the RCA cable to where he had the solid white wire. Connect the shield to where the white/black. Connect that RCA to the front left RCA jack of the radio. Insulate the speaker wires.

Repeat for the other 3 channels. Grey = Front right. Green = Rear left. Purple = Right rear.

make it little easier, take out the radio and look down to the brace under the radio. You should see 2 white plugs, these are the amp bypass plug. unplug them and use a metra 70-1761 harness. This will get rid of all the noise and prevent popping noise if you just use the rca ends like mentioned before. rca will work but you have to ground the factory amp with the deck to get rid of it and it doesn't always work. The amp is a 02 so it on borrowed time as is
