I looked at the chart for stereo wiring for my 1987 camry and its wrong, all the colors are wrong and I have not been able to install a simple aiwa cdc deck because i have no voltmeter, I do how ever have a red, black, yellow, white, and gray w/ green stripe (this wire is smaller than the others, dimmer maybe?) wire to choose from and none of them have worked in any sequence ive tried, I know for a fact they are live because a few hours before I took out the previous working stereo and it was fine....so im lost here, any help would be great. thanks

You should have another plug besides the five wire plug you described that contains the rear speaker leads. The other plug should contain the front left , front right , 12V+, switched, illumination, dimmer, antenna trigger, and ground leads. The Gray/Green wire may be a remote turn on lead to a factory amplifier, if equipped, and would explain why you've had no output on the Red, White, Yellow, & Black leads in any combination. One way to test it without a meter is to plug in the factory stereo, while it's playing remove the five wire plug and see if only the rear speakers cut out or if all speakers cut out. If all speakers cut out and the radio remains powered, there's a good chance that the Gray/Green wire is a remote turn on lead. Obviously if you had a meter, you'd probably be done by now ;) Let us know what you find and how you make out. ------------- the12volt • Support the12volt.com

You can also use these links to match the OEM harness to what the wires are. One of them should match your Toyota...

well after blowing 5 7.5 fuses ive figured it out lol....... apparently the deck wouldnt work unless i connected the gray(constant?) to both the red and yellow aiwa wires, then to get the car clock and memory working i used the blue / YELLOW toyota wire so i have all 4 connected to each other, its a real mess, but that odd grey/green wire would blow out my fuse every freaking time i touched it to gray/BROWN / blue, yellow wire it was such a pain in the ass....so the 12volt chart for my car is almost right then but some of it is off, for my deck at least.... but nontheless thanks for your help i appreciate it!
