I am installing a 5 amp system that could draw over 460 amps of current and I know I will need to upgrade my charging system. I need to know are there any do's and don'ts I should watch-out for? Is the best way to run a second alternator is to directly wire it to the 3 Yellow Tops that will be installed one for each amp that is driving @ 1600 Watts RMS bridged into 4 Ohms? Will I need more than a battery isolater? I will be using 3 DiamondAudio D7402's @ 1600 Watts each bridged into 4 Ohms, 1 D7056 @ 200 Watts X 3 Bridged into 4 Ohms, and 1 D7402 @ 200 Watts X 2 Bridged into 4 Ohms. All this into a 96 Maxima. Any Ideas?
you need to buy a hummer you can put 2nd alternator on the belt system.... but i dont think theres enough horsepower in your engine to produce 460 amps!!!!!
You are obviously going to need at least two alternators--maybe even three. Depending on what kind of vehicle/engine you have, this may or may not be possible.
Also remember when you're looking at HO alternators to look at the power output at idle and use that spec. to compare too. A "200A alternator" is only gonna produce that amount when you're at higher RPMs. So if you intend to slam your system when you're at a stop light you better make sure your alternators put out plenty of power at engine idle speed.
I saw this place recommended by a number of Web sites so you might wanna check it out. Also I think Big Purds has a hookup somewhere for discounted HO alternators so u might wanna get in touch with him too....
