I am going to be building my box tomorrow. I have 4 10" Audiobahn and want to build a sealed box. I will be mounting the subs magnet inside the box. From how I figure it, this is what I need:

1.1 cubic feet/per sub
total of 4.4 cubic feet

magnet takes up approx. .3 cubic feet so I need to add on 1.2 cubic feet for a total of 5.6 cubic feet.

These are the measurements that I came up with, keep in mind I added 3/4" for wood thickness. Can one of the audio experts here verify that this all adds up and I did not mess up somewhere?

33"x26.25"x12.5"

First off we need the model# for the subs. But if Audiobahn suggests 1 cu/ft per sub then the displacement of the sub is already taken into account. Also are you going to have separate chambers for each sub?

second of all if your making a rectengular type box that the front peice will have to be a minimum or 42 iches long cause yopu need like 10 inches pers sub. plus change.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

I am not sure of the model number yet.  I bought them from a buddy of mine.  There will be no chambers unless it is better to do it that way.

Where my current bos is right now, it is almost maxed out for width unless I bring it out further towards the back of the trunk.  Couldn't I put 2 in the front and 2 on the top or is that a bad idea?

I'm sure you need to have seperate cambers for each sub.

You won't need seperate chambers unless you intend to run them wired up for a mono signal.

Here is a link for the specs for my subs.  If someone can tell me by this what I need for air space and if the magnet is included in the calculations. https://www.audiobahninc.com/tech/2001.pdf

The displacement is included in Audiobahns volume calcs. I would suggest 1 cu/ft per sub and I would have a separate chamber for each sub. You can use the 12 volts volume calculator to aid you in designing your enclosure https://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxcalcs.asp#rec

OK, the magice number is supposed to be 1728.  When I use the link you gave, here is what I get...........

33x12.5x22=4.1 cubic feet 3/4" MDF

When I use the calculator, this is what I get, keep in mind I am subtracting 3/4" for the wood..

32.25x11.75x21.25=4.6 cubic feet

What am I doing wrong?  The numbers should be the same whatever method I use.

 the 3/4" is in the formula already. I went to the page and ran your numbers of 33"x12.5"x22" with .75 for the board = 4.11068ft cubed. like the other guys said go with 1cubic ft per woofer and have sep chambers for each if you want the most from your box.

The 2 main reasons you will want separate chambers are 1) the subs create pressure inside the box which makes it flex. If the box is flexing then you have a loss of bass (applies mostly to a spl setup) by adding a divider it acts as a brace making your box more rigid. 2) In large enclosures you get stagnant waves which results in cancellation. If you divide your box up it creates smaller boxes thus minimizing if not eliminating cancellation.

don't forget to add in your chamber walls to your box size though.  They make the box smaller.  Cut the box into 4 seperate boxes when you are figuring out the space.

If 33" is as wide as you can, 3 10's might be all the room you have unless you want to do a fancy clam shell box (which is not easy for a first time box builder).

You had mentioned that you would put 2 on top and top 2 facing to the rear.  I (as well as others I'm sure) recommend against doing this in most cases.

Thanks for all the help and tips guys.  We got the box built and I just got home with it.  I still have to cut out the holes for the subs but everything is assembled.  I did manage to get all 4 subs in the front panel, barely but it did fit.  All the cuts went smooth and everything fit tight together except the one end.  Is has an 1/8" gap from the botton to about 1/4 way up.  Anyways, I am just going to cut out the holes and apply the silicone.  I will let is set until tomrrowafter lunch at which time I will do the hook ups.  Thanks again everybody and nice to see you here fellow Grands member, lol.
