I am doing a complete custom steup in the trunk of my acura legend. I have done tons of systems before but never custom like i want to do. I am ripping everything out of my trunk and dynamating first and everything is gonna by flush. My amps are gonna go where my spare tire was. I want to have the top be plexi glass so you look down and see the two amps. And on the left side I am gonna have the same thing where you look through plexi glass and see the farad caps, and on the right side the same thing where you look through plexi glass and see the crossovers for my speakers. And then my subs to. But everything will be neat and flush so it looks clean. For all of you who do custom installs a lot how should I go about this. I have some specific questions.

- whatt material should I use for all of the peices? The same as I use for my sub box? I just dont want anything really heavy.(not fiberglass because I dont want to try it with my first custom install.

- How do i put the plexiglass in the wood so that it is all flush?

- any ideas how to mount my amps and make then sturdy there?

If any of you have any words of wisdom or pics of installations PLEASE let me know. This is a big step for me and I need all the help and input I can get. Hope i dont mess it up!

  • For panelling I would use 1/2 MDF

  • Use a rabbitting router bit to 1/4" depth and cut the bottom side of the frame for each of the parts that you want plexiglass to show through. Do the same for the plexi glass and when you place the plexi glass to the MDF it will flush mount right into place and you won't see the edge because it will be hiddden by the MDF. Digram here

  • Build yourself a false floor to mount the amps to. Attach the false floor to the spare tire well with angle brackets and then place spacer's a little higher than the amps are . Now bulid the portion that the plexiglass will attach to and finish off with carpet or vinyl.
