My son wrecked his new chrysler and i have comeup with the stereo out of it.. God, I am trying to put it in a 1979 chev 3/4 ton p/u.. Course my old truck doesnt have the new modern connectors, LOL. what I need to know is what are the connector wiring colors on this chrysler one.. and how do they matchup with my old chevy.. thanks guys..

I found the color codes in wiring section on here.. Now the only thing I have to do is make sure it all matches up and see if it will work.. Gotta cut a hole in the dash to make this big hummer fit, then rock and roll.. If anyone has any suggestions would appreciate them..??

If you go to Best Buy, they carry a male harness with wires coming from it....they will be the industry-standard aftermarket EIA wire colors, rather than Chrysler colors...the the colors will be labeled on the package the harness comes in.
Don't forget, most of the 2002 radios have a unique antenna plug; you can get an adapter for that at the stereo shop too.
Many (but not all) Chrysler radios also have a separate amplifier in the car. The radio will still operate just fine without the amp, but it probably won't play terribly loud.

I see that unique antenna plug.. I for sure have to fix that, my old window plug is the only thing I got to work with.. Didnt even think of best buy.. Say do these new fangled units have to be completely hookup up to work.. I am only going to use the rear speaker, somebody told me that all the wires have to be connected for this chrysler radio to work.. Is that right, or can I just use my old backyard splices.. hehehe.. Dont get me wrong this 79 has been completely restored and is painted a gunmetal gray that is mean looking..
The Metra wiring harness that should plug into your Chrysler radio and allow you to hook it up easily is 71-1817.
In theory, the only things that need to be hooked up are constant power, ground, and switched power. With that, the unit should turn on. Assuming the head unit has built-in power amps, It really doesn't matter to the radio if you use one or four of the speaker outputs (as long as they are used properly.) So yes, you should be able to just hook up the rear set.
If it's an Infinity system there are extrnal amps in the Chrysler and the head unit may not be powered. If this is the case you will have to use an external amp for your speakers... and the Metra adapter above may not work.
I also seem to recall that some Chrysler Infinity systems do have built-in security codes, but since this came out of one of your vehicles you should have that if it is needed.

Shoot I cut the wiring harness wires off when I got the radio out of it.. thinking I knew mine didnt have one.. Thought all I had to do was hook it up to mine.. But I see I was wrong there.. This chrysler one has 14 wires on it.. The only two I couldnt figure out was one being Purple and yellow and the other Green and red.. I hooked up the ignition wires to mine.. grounded it and it wouldnt turn on.. Perhaps it is an infinity system, I am not sure.. From what you are saying I need to also hook up the constant power to have it turn on.. Right?? Didnt the infinity system have more than 4 speakers?? I looked at the site on that part number and didnt see any oem harness for the radio itself.. hmmmmmm... I am going to have to ask my kid what was in that car.. When he gets back from Iraq..
Purple / YELLOW is a databus wire that ties to the factory Chrysler steering wheel controls. There may be some interesting things you could do with that in the future, but just leave it disconnected for now.
What DYohn said about the speaker wires is right---it doesn't matter how many of them you hook up.
Many of the factory systems do have more than four speakers...kinda. They just count the front tweeters as extra speakers to impress customers, but they just operate in parallel with the regular speakers----the radio will still only have four outputs.
The radio will definitely not turn on without the constant power wire hooked up. It's not just a matter of keeping the clock and station presets---it won't work at all without it.
