Hey all, I've heard that you should fuse your remote turn on wire is this nesessary, if yes what sized fuse should be used. I dont have one now but I'm upgrading to an Alpine cda 9813 soon and don't want to screw it up. Would the 9813 install instructions cover this. Thanks for all input CC

Generally it isn't required to fuse the remote turn on lead due to the fact that is so low of a current that it couldn't do any type of damage and most radios have an internal circuit braker for this wire. If for some reason you need to add a relay then you would need a fuse then.

I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.
Technically it's not required, but it will definitely not hurt at all if you just put a simple inline fuseholder on there. I know some of the older head units (3+ years old) came with inline fuseholders already connected to the remote turn on, presumably because they did not incorporate a circuit breaker inside the unit like auex described.
The "Basic Car Audio Electronics" web site recommends (not surprisingly) to do a fused relay to protect the head unit. While this may not be necessary, having it there will not do any harm at all and a relay and fuse will set you back like 2 bucks. If I had a $400 head unit I'd probably be putting it on there, but that's just me.

Hey guys, thanks alot for the useful information. I think I will incorperate something either a fuse or a relay into the rem. wire just to be on the safe side. Thanks again to all who responded. I love this site. CC
