HI GUYS!
Where is the factory amp on a 2003 accord coupe. Planning to hook up after market amp and grab speaker wires there. Does anyone have the speaker colors? If not I know to use a 9 volt battery to find but how do you tell which set of wires are the input coming from the radio, and which are output coming from amp to speakers? I know if I send 9 volts to the input side I can @$#% up the amp! So how do you tell? Thanks in advance.
I don't think there is a factory amplifier in this vehicle. But it's good that you realize the risks associated with using a speaker popper cuz not everyone thinks about that beforehand
.
The back of your radio should have a blue plug that looks like the 20-pin connector in this photo (right side diagram). Use the diagram to pick out the positive and negative wires for each speaker, and use a multimeter to test for resistance across each speaker's two wires. You should get something close to 4 ohms. For each pair of wires that give you around 4 ohms, you know they lead directly to a speaker so you can do use a speaker popper safely.
Also you can use the meter to verify the wire that's pin location #2, cuz this is the wire you'll want to tap in to for the aftermarket amp's remote turn on. What the meter should show is approx. 12 volts when the key is in the ACC or ON position, but no voltage when the car's off.
