Alright, I have a big problem. I recently installed a new car stereo system in my brothers truck and decided it was time to upgrade mine. I purchased a new Sony Xplod amp and Xplod subs as well. The fuse on my REM wire kept blowing, and I figured since my brother's reciever didn't have one, mine wouldnt need one either (the fuse was so small that I had trouble finding replacements). Well long story short, I cut the fuse box out and connected the wire back together. I went to turn on my stereo, and all of a sudden, smoke starts coming from the back of it. Everything still works, but I'm sure the REM function of my stereo will be lost. What, if anything, can I do to keep from having to purchase a new reciever? Thanks in advance.

1) What's the year make and model of the truck
2) Which color wire did you hook the remote line up to on the receiver
3) Which model amp and subs are you using

The truck is a 94 Chevy 1500, although the problem isn't with the truck, but with my car, a 94 Pontiac Firebird.

The REM wire was hooked to the blue remote wire on the back of my Pioneer reciever (DEH-P75DH)

The subs are 12" Sony Xplod (XS-L1235)

The amp is a Sony Xplod 1000w (XM-2165GTX)

I'm pretty sure that the remote function on my reciever is probably shorted out, I'm just trying to find any other possible ways to wire the amp's REM wire.

Ok, you have several options.
1) You can wire the remote to the OEM radio harness Switched 12v wire (yellow). This wire provides power when the car is turned on or the key is in accessory (essentially it's the remote line for the receiver from the car)
2) You can tap directly into your ignition harness and splice into the Accessory wire (orange).

I think #2 is a little better for you.

Just to make sure the rest of the system is correct...
Sony Xplod XS-L1235 12" subs
4ohm DVC's
250RMS 800Peak

Sony Xplod XM-2165GTX
165 x 2 @ 4ohms
200 x 2 @ 2ohms
400 x 1 @ 4ohms mono/bridged

You'll never see the "1000 watts" that is claimed. In fact, unless you're running a 14.4volt electrical system you wont see the rated specs either. It will be a little less on 12volt electrical system.

Your best bet for wiring is to wire each sub in parallel to it's own channel like this...

You'll get close to 200 watts per sub, which is the best you'll be able to do with your sub/amp combination

My bad. The XS-L1235 are 4ohm Single Voice Coil subs, not 4ohm DVC's like I mentioned before. Sorry about that, the site where I got the specs made them appear to be DVC's (unfortunately Sony doesn't list them so I had to go elsewhere).

Now that we know that, just run 1 sub per channel (+ to + and - to -). You'll get a little under 165 watts per sub on a 12volt system, which is the best you can do with your current equipment.
I can't seem to upload any pics right now, so unfortunately I can't give you the diagram. I'll try again later.

Whatever you do, DO NOT BRIDGE THE AMP!!! This is very important. With (2) 4ohm SVC's wired in parallel together and bridged you will present a 2ohm Mono load to the amp, and it is not stable at 2ohms Mono (only 2ohm Stereo and 4ohms Mono).
When I am able to post pics again I'll show you a diagram of that as well so you can see what Not to do.
