What are the effects of having a distribution block? Are they good to have or just for extreme cases? Sorry, for the questions, It's just that I am new to this stuff, and I've always wondered what they were.

Distribution blocks enable you ro run a single power wire from your battery to the area where you would have multiple amps installed, then run your individual power wires from the block to the amps. So say you have a 3 amp system, you would have a large power cable, say 2gauge, coming from the battery to the block, then smaller wires, say 4 or 8 gauge, going from the block to your amps. Saves the trouble of running multiple power wires from the battery to your amps. Hope that makes sense.

Don't forget that some Distribution blocks are Fused, and some are not.

Generally Fused distro blocks are used when working with Power Wires, Non-Fused blocks are usually used for combining grounds (bringing multiple ground cables to a single point/cable).

They both work the same way (do the same job). Not everyone uses Fused blocks with the power wires (mainly because non-fused blocks tend to be less expensive), but I'd strongly suggest using one. It adds one more "safe spot" to catch a spike/surge before it gets to your equipment.
