what is the benefit from mounting a subwoofer backward i.e. the magnet facing out of the box . and what do you think about free air speakers as example the adiobahn flame series?? my bro is wantin to buy so adiobahn 12's that are the flame basket style and he wants to know how to mount them free air in his 97 chevy silverado. any suggestions will help.

When you mount the sub backwards with the magnet facing out it’s called inverted. The only advantage of inverting the sub is for looks. If you invert the sub you also need to reverse the phase +to- and -to+ so the sub will be in phase. You will also want to subtract the subs displacement from your enclosure volume. On the flame Q's I would not suggest you do a free air set up. I would suggest 1 cu/ft sealed or 3 cu/ft ported.
