I want to install a lighted switch between my radio and my amp to cut my amp on/off. Should I splice into the ground wire from the radio or should I ground the switch to the car's body? Also I was wondering if it was possible and safe to wire 2 switches in parallel to switch on/off 1 amp from either switch, sort of like a house light switch? If so, how would it be done? Would I need a relay, fuse, etc.?
Ground the switch(s) to the chasis of the vehicle.
If you want to use 2 switches, then you could run 2 seperate remote lines, both going to the same amp. Most headunits produce enough power to run 2 remotes. so you could splice both into the rempote feed from the headunit, install your switches on each line, then splice both into the amplifier's remote input. You only need 1 switch to be "closed" in order to complete the circuit and turn the amp on.
Note:
By running 2 remote lines you would be sending apx. 24volts to the amp if both switches are "closed" at the same time. Most amp remotes only operate off of a single 12 volt input, so I'm not sure what that would do to your amp. It could possibly fry that circuitry.
You could also place multiple switches on the same remote line (which takes care of the 24 volt problem), but
both switches would need to be "closed" in order to turn on the amp. If one was "closed" and the other was "open" you would not have a completed circuit.
Why are you looking at having multiple switches?
