I have a JBL 180.2.  Running a set of boston acoustics professional 5.5. Bostons website says I could run up to 400 watts. Does this mean 400 watts left and 400 right or 200 each? The speakers run at 3 ohms so I am not getting the 180 watts (I think) and there is definite cliping going on. My tweeters turn off when there is clipping. So my question is would there be as much clipping if I ran a jbl p180 bridged for each channel. this solution would cost me around $100 or am I fooling myself. If this won't help the clipping could I get a suggestion on a better amp for this situation. By  the way this is the first system I ever installed or had and it is fantastic. I am going to start planning my next one. Thanks for the help.

Each side is capable of running up to 400 watts RMS. If you are hearing clipping your gains are defiantly set to high https://incolor.inebraska.com/weisinator/car-audio-basics/set_amp_gains.htm However you could use a new amp. I would suggest that you find a good quality 2 channel amp that puts out 400 watts RMS X 2. But if you’re planning your next install. I would just adjust the gains properly live with what you have and save the money for your next setup.

WOW , 5,5 inches and it handles 400wrms, that's like 28 amps going into those mids..i wonder if they'll glow in the dark....
