I read a few topics about adding a flashing LED to fool theives, connected to the positive and accessory wire from behind the radio. But in my case, I still have my factory radio, and have my amp remote wire to the accessory wire with a lighted switch inline. But for some reason, when I shut off my ignition, the LED flashes, but so does the power light on my amp! Can anybody think of why that is? Anyway, I read I could also use the wires at the steering column protected by fuses. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram and have located the wiring diagram. I know Im suppose to use the 12-volt constant power wire for the positive side of the LED but am not sure which to use for the negative side. Should I use the ignition wire, second ignition, accessory wire, or the second accessory wire? Or, does it really matter? Any responses would really be helpful.

its easy you can buy most stuff at radio shack.
here you go buy a flashing led. from the shack whatever color more than 3.5 volts
and a 220 ohm - 350 ohm resistor 1/2 watt
than take out your radio. dont unclip the wires from it. grab a tester an test the wires you need to find the constant 12 volt wire and the turn on 12 volt wire .
the constant will be the power to the led.. and the turn on wire will act as a ground when the key is off. so take two wires solder them on to the led or connect them what ever. then connect the positive side of led to the constant wire from radio. then take the led and place the resistor between the led metal and the wire. then connect that wire to the turn on power of the radio which should show positive when key is on and negative when key is off. so the led will only turn on when the key is off. try that any help email me,.

Thanks, but that really does not answer my question. I had it connected that way, but I guess with the switch, my amp power light blinks on and off with the LED. So I was trying to figure out what wires to use from the sterring column.

it sounds like the current through the LED is switching the headunit on and off slightly, just enough to trigger the remote wire, you can use a relay if you want to avoid using those wire... 85-On with ign, 86 ground, 30-constant power, 87a output to relay, all those wires go to the head unit too, makes it nice and easy.
