I have a civic and I have blown on of my rear 6x9's I have heard that putting a nice set of 6.5 components in the rear deck will actually improve sound quality. I believe that i am going to do this I was just wondering what i should use to make the plate so that i can mount the 6.5 in the 6x9 hole. I was thinking abs plastic.....the stuff that makes up most of the plastic in the car or should i use mdf. thanks in advance ~Q

1/2 to 5/8 inch mdf would probably be best, plastic will work but it will flex causing rattles.

Try the Scosche SA69. They'll work with just about any 6x9" opening, including the ones in a Civic. Just make sure all 4 corners of the adapter are screwed down nice and secure and you shouldn't have any problems with it rattling. ------------- Ethan

I have done this numerous times using a piece of MDF like already mentioned and is wonderful. Much better choice than using 6x9's

Esmith is refering to a prefabricated bracket made for installing component speakers in, not a 6x9 speaker.

They're made for installing 5.25's or 6.5's into a 6x9 opening. Whether or not they are component speakers (with a separate tweeter) does not matter as they have a section that can be cut out to mount the tweeter. If it's just a regular (non-component) speaker then the section remains sealed and covered up. ------------- Ethan

so what brackets would you use from crutchfield to go from 6x8's to 5.25 or better?
