Hi, I have a '00 Mitsubishi Galant ES. I just had my battery changed and I had to enter in my security code for the radio. Well I must have been entering in the wrong code, cause after 3 tries I got locked out. All it displays is "off". Does anyone know how to reset it?

I know Mitsu is going to charge a good amount for them just to push and hold a couple of buttons. Just wanted to give it a try here before I start forking out the money.

Thanks.

Try disconnecting the battery again, that's how it got messed up in the first place, maybe that will reset the radio.  As Look on the face for a reset button.  Also you can just pull the radio fuse instead of the battery.

Pulling the battery didn't help.

This is an anti-theft system and the only way to reset it is to go see your dealer.

hi,

i have a  somewhat similar problem with my 97 Galant ES, i bought it 2nd hand and the battery died on me, after recharging it the radio is now asking me for a code, i tried calling the old owner but he wouldn't answer my calls, Mitsubishi on the other hand is gonna charge me $70 for this, I am very reluctant to pay for this coz i bought the car and think that is unreasonable, is there any chance you would know of the code?

im also thnking of jus replacing the unit if i can't get the old code, problem is i would need the diagram of the stock radio. please help?

thanks in advance.

try leaving the unit on for an hr then see if the thingy prompt you the code again. this may not work on mitsu, but its how it is on new hondas. take a stab at it and repost your result.

If your radio code has become invoked and you do not have it, this means either A) the radio is stolen, or B) you got screwed by the previous owner.  Your only option is to get the code from the previous owner or go see a dealer, prove ownership, and pay the fee.

Have you tried calling the dealer where the car was purchased, if you can provide them with the vin number they may be able to help you for free.  Some dealers when the cars are shipped in they record the radio code on the paper work.  Also, you can look in the glove compartment and see if the radio card is in there with the code.  This is worth a shot.

thanks for the suggestions, i'll try them and see what i get, i really bought the car, the owner just won't help me out, and i did already call the dealer and even with proof of ownership, they will still charge.  thanks again
